Explosion in Beirut kills Hezbollah senior commander
Israel accused of being behind the attack
Beirut, Lebanon – Explosions erupted in Lebanon’s capital on Tuesday evening, leveling buildings, damaging hospitals, and causing chaos.
The cause of the explosions is not yet known, but there are fears that a large stockpile of fireworks was set off at a port in the city. Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group, has denied responsibility for the blasts.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel will not tolerate any further attacks from Lebanon. He said that Israel has carried out a strike in Beirut targeting the Hezbollah commander it says was responsible for the attacks.
The Lebanese government has declared a two-week state of emergency in the wake of the explosions. The World Health Organization has said that at least 135 people have been killed and over 5,000 injured.
The explosions have caused widespread damage to Beirut, and the city is still struggling to cope with the aftermath. The international community has pledged aid to Lebanon, and the United Nations has said that it will send a team to assess the damage.
